A nurse reviewing a personal budget at a kitchen table

I have been a lifestyle coach for more than a handful of years. I recently had a client who was a master prepared nurse. Highly educated. Deeply committed to his patients. Living paycheck to paycheck.

This is more common than most people admit — especially in healthcare.

When he came to me, the cycle felt unbreakable. Debt accumulating, no savings, and spending patterns that had never been examined closely. What he needed wasn't a lecture. He needed a guide, a sounding board, and someone to hold him accountable to his own priorities.

Four areas, twelve focused sessions

  • Spending habits. We conducted an honest audit of where his money was actually going. Subscriptions, convenience spending, and daily habits were quietly eroding his income. Awareness was the first step toward change.

  • Debt management. We built a structured payoff strategy, targeting high-interest obligations first to stop the financial bleeding and free up cash flow over time.

  • Budgeting. We developed a realistic, zero-based budget built around his actual life — not a perfect one. A budget only works if you can sustain it.

  • Earning potential. We explored opportunities within his existing career: PRN shifts, specialty certifications, and strategic overtime — practical ways to grow income without starting over.

The foundation underneath all of it came from a principle David Bach outlines in The Automatic Millionaire:

“Pay yourself first — automatically, before any bill, before any expense. Make it non-negotiable."

That shift in priority changed everything. He stopped saving what was left over and started saving before anything else left his account.

Today, he has money in the bank, a clear debt payoff plan, and a relationship with his finances he has never had before. He did not need more income to get started. He needed clarity, accountability, and a system.

The knowledge I have gathered over my lifetime of amazing coaches and mentors is meant to be shared. This is exactly why I do this work.

If you are a healthcare professional — or anyone — who feels stuck in the paycheck-to-paycheck cycle, I would welcome a conversation.

Your flourishing matters.

You have spent years caring, leading, achieving, and showing up for others. Now it is time to create space for your own well-being, purpose, and what comes next.

You do not need to have everything figured out. You only need to take one honest step toward the life you want to live.
